Leandro Montero was born in Santiago de Cuba and began his dance training at the Escuela de Artes José María Heredia, where he spent the first six years of his career. In 2018, at the age of 15, he moved to Havana after being selected to join the second graduating class of the Carlos Acosta Academy (Acosta Danza). After three years at the academy, he graduated as a dancer trained in a mixed technique, specializing in contemporary dance and classical ballet. This paved the way for him to join the Compañía Acosta Danza ensemble, where he worked with several international choreographers for a year and a half.

He then began working as a dancer with Micompañía Danza in 2022. With this company, he danced and performed at various venues in Asia, Europe, and Latin America. He also worked as a choreographic assistant alongside choreographer Susana Pous at the Ballet Nacional de Cuba.

After four years with Micompañía, he decided to found a contemporary performance art project in Havana called PaZalvaje, through which he, together with a team of 15 other artists, created a community for young artists in Cuba. As part of this project, he led workshops for professional contemporary dancers. He also directed and produced two contemporary dance performances at the Teatro Martí, one of Cuba’s oldest and most important theaters.

In July 2026, Leandro Montero decided to leave the island of Cuba in search of new challenges and insights.
