SAVING SALVADOR
Premiere: February 26, 2026 - Congress Innsbruck
With *Saving Salvador – A Tribute to Dalí*, Enrique Gasa Valga continues his artistic exploration of extraordinary figures from the 19th and 20th centuries. Following successful productions such as *ROMY*, *The Case of Wagner*, and *Viva la Vida*, he now turns his attention to one of the most dazzling, polarizing, and at the same time fascinating artists of Surrealism: Salvador Dalí.
The play does not approach the life and work of the Spanish painter through a mere biography, but tells his story from an unusually personal perspective—that of Gasa Valga’s mother, Gracia Valga Marcé, who worked alongside Dalí as a nurse in her youth. Her experiences with the eccentric artist form the emotional thread running through this production and lend it an intimate depth that goes far beyond the portrait of a public figure.
“Salvador Dalí and his paintings have been a part of my life since childhood. My mother often told me stories about the artist. The precision and technique of his painting stand in contrast to the facets of the unconscious mind. Through his paintings, he managed to turn dreams into reality,”says Enrique Gasa Valga about his personal connection to the subject.
Navigating the tension between reality and dream, between technical brilliance and surreal fantasy, this new dance piece explores the various phases of Dalí’s creative career—from his early works to his often controversial later works. In doing so, Gasa Valga leaves room for ambivalence and contradiction: Dalí’s eccentricity, his provocations, and his public persona remain just as much a focus as the emotional depth and symbolism of his visual language.
None other than Alberto Talarico and Valeria Angesi are jointly responsible for the set design of the dance piece *Saving Salvador *. With great creative precision and a keen sense of space, symbolism, and atmosphere, the Italian artistic duo creates a visual world that engages with Dalí’s surrealist imagery through powerful scenes and evocative spaces.
Talarico and Angesi work internationally on set designs for opera, theater, and dance. Their designs are characterized by poetic clarity, dramaturgical sensitivity, and an aesthetic that not only shapes the space but also conceives of it as a living component of the production. Together, they develop images that linger long after the performance ends—sensual, thoughtful, and full of artistic depth.
What makes this production even more special is its impressive musical accompaniment: two exceptional singers—including the acclaimed Greta Marcolongo—and four virtuoso musicians from Italy lend the performance its sonic depth with their live performance. The music is composed by Roberto Tubaro, who will create a new piece specifically for this world premiere.
A Tribute to Salvador Dalí is not a traditional artist biography, but a kaleidoscope of dance: a tribute to a life straddling genius and madness. In this world premiere, Dalí’s work comes to life through expressive choreography, sensual imagery, and surreal theatricality—carried by a personal narrative style that allows the audience not only to see but also to feel what moves Dalí’s art at its core.
